- Edelbrock IAS Xtreme Remote-Reservoir Shocks -
"Magic Shocks" about sums up the all-new IAS Xtreme shocks from Edelbrock. Based on the awesome IAS Performer, Edelbrock takes their new shocks to the Xtreme with the addition of an external reservoir system. By utilizing an external reservoir, the IAS Xtreme does not need to reserve space within the shock itself for the shock's oil and gasses, thereby creating more room within the shock cylinder and effectively increasing shock piston and wheel travel. Say THAT ten times fast!
What makes these shocks so unique is Edelbrock's innovative auto-valve system, called "Inertia Active System", or IAS for short. It is this system which allows each shock to react to bumps, ruts, and turns independently, each automatically adjusting to their environment on the fly. Because of this system, IAS shocks offer superior handling and a better quality ride than traditional non-automatic shocks.
External reservoir shocks hold special value for us Jeepers due to their Xtreme travel, improving off road performance and offering cooler operation with their increased oil capacity. Xtreme travel means Xtreme traction, and that means better performance on the trail, which means less chance of getting stuck.
No other shock can offer the kind of performance that Edelbrock delivers, because no other shock has their patented valve system. Edelbrock - take it to the Xtreme!
Installation Information:
Though not beyond the abilities of a novice mechanic, installation is noticeably more involved as compared to conventional shocks, due to the external reservoir. The reservoir is attached to the main cylinder via a short 10” braided stainless steel line, limiting location possibilities.
Though we tried many different positions, these photos illustrate what we decided to be optimum placement for our vehicles.
Before drilling and finalizing reservoir installation, take time to assure that the braided line and the reservoir itself will not rub or hit the tire or moving suspension parts, both at full compression and at full droop.
All said and done, these "Super Shocks" are well worth the time and investment. During our recent trip to Moab, our Edelbrock IAS Xtreme Shocks performed flawlessly, and impressed even our most doubtful skeptics...You know who you are.
“Until now, if you wanted to reduce chassis roll around turns and under hard braking, yet have a comfortable ride you couldn't do it. No shock absorber in existence could do both without some compromise in either handling or comfort. When you improved the handling with stiffer shocks, the ride became rough and uncomfortable. When you improved the ride with softer shocks, the handling became sloppy. That is, until now… The revolutionary Edelbrock shocks deliver excellent handling and a comfortable ride. The patented Ricor® Inertia Active System eliminates the compromise inherent in other designs for a shock that is soft on rough roads and firm on smooth roads. This keeps the tires on the ground and the chassis stable. You may have heard these claims before, but now it's for real. With Edelbrock, you get “The Best of Both Worlds”… superior handling and maximum comfort!“
