Tim Cooper's 1989 Wrangler Tim Cooper's 1989 Wrangler

Tim Cooper's 1989 Wrangler

"Its an '89 YJ that I have owned for 5 years. It has 204,000 total miles on it, 105,000 since I bought it!

So far the mods are: (deep breath) 4" superlift and Rancho 9000 shocks, 33" BF Goodrich AT tires on 16" Pro-Comp alloy wheels, 4:10 diffs with Detroit in back, and Tru-Trac in front, MIT rear CV Driveshaft and custom front shaft (after the original bent while driving the 405 at 80 mph!) Canyon City Rear Rack, Currie rear rock bumper, and "Off Your Rockers" diamond plate corners, Steel Horse Super Seats, Optima red top (just one right now), Warn 9000I, IPF headlights, PIAA pro 80xt spotlights, (440 watts of light when they are all on!) Kenwood CD stereo setup with amp, Borla catback exhaust.

Replacements over the years? Transmission at 200,000 miles. Yes it was the Peugeot, and yes it grenaded, But only because the pilot bearing failed and shook the main cluster to pieces. So the same model was used for a replacement from Scotty's in Fontana. (also NV4500's still don't grow on trees!!) And the rear Pinion spat three teeth a while back. No money? No problem! Pull the rear shaft, put it in 4 high, and cruise around in front wheel drive for a month! All fixed now and running great. At least it gave me a reason to dump the Trac-Lok and upgrade to a Detroit. Word of advice, when driving home on the freeway from your friends house after doing the work, make SURE the lugnuts are tight!! (ouch!)

Next on the list? Deciding on the best way to finally DUMP "that" carb! Upgrading the NP231 to the 4:1 kit as i want to keep the 4:10 diffs. Dual battery setup with heavy duty alternator. Body lift to raise the floor away from the catalitic convertor as its roasting my floor mats. (oh, right, it kinda looks "cool" too) Rocker panel sliders, after i bend the rocker panels straight again, thanks to Fun in the Desert they are "kinda" custom molded.

As far as trails go, i've "done" Lockwood Valley (often), Big Bear/Arrowhead (often), Los Coyotes (once so far, I have to do it again before May. thats when it closes!) Fun in the Desert (ONCE!! that was enough!) , played up in Little Tujunga (often), Angeles Crest Highway whenever it snows, Etc.

In fact our club, the Orange County 4play will be at Los Coyotes the weekend of the 16th Feb if you're interested in coming along..."
